After years of talking and negotiations, the Mayor of Larnaca Mr. Vyras finally has given the green light of the removal of the fuel tanks. The demolition includes dismantling all the buildings, pipelines, tanks and machinery which are part of the company’s petroleum storage and distribution facility on the Larnaca – Dhekelia road.

According to Hellenic Petroleum, they submitted an application for the demolition of its facilities at the beginning of January 2020 after it was decided to move the operations to Vasilikos. In July, the company submitted an environmental impact study to the government which has now been approved.

“We expect that by June – July next year, all the facilities related to LPG will have been transferred to Vasilikos and Larnaca will finally breathe freely “said the Mayor. Furthermore, he added that in a few months from today, the demolition of the oil tanks on the coastal front which have been empty for some time will be completed.
